Animal

A human being is special. Better than other animals. We have this ‘consciousness’ that no other being has…

Or so we’re told.

The reality is, actually, two things (yes, we’re getting straight into it!):

1) Every living thing simply has a different kind of consciousness; any nature documentary reminds of us that - cactus, bats, whales, snakes… it’s incredible the sensitivities and innate powers other beings have that we don’t…

2) Despite our supposed ‘self-awareness’, we still spend most of our lives doing very ‘animal’ things: eating, shitting, sleeping, fucking etc etc. Not to mention the rather ‘unaware’ habits and routines we build up over the years.

So much for the sacred and special human existence…

There is a happy ending to this story however! If we are an animal (which indeed we are!), then what KIND of animal might we be? And what gifts might that entail?

Well, many people don’t know this but the human animal has 2 very distinctive superpowers!

Firstly, we can cool ourselves down by breathing and sweating. This temperature regulation method is remarkably rare in the animal kingdom and is the reason why we can outrun a horse, camel, dog or any other animal in the world over a long enough distance (FACT).

Secondly, we have the achilles tendon, enabling us to bounce forwards across the ground effortlessly, harmoniously and without damage to the body. Actually, the waves created by this motion are extremely healthy and rejuvenating for the system, as well as making us unbeatable endurance athletes by nature.

In conclusion, it’s really fucking great to be an animal, as long as you’re aware of your natural strengths and ‘conscious’ of them (there’s that word again, sorry folks).

And there might even be a third superpower after all! (Our ability to observe our own breathe… and, in turn, to change / transform ourselves over time by doing so). But that’s for another place and time…

For now: feel yourself… move… run… sweat… breathe… learn to regulate yourself dynamically, socially, physically emotionally… finding ‘stillness within chaos’ as the Taoists would say…

Remind yourself daily that you’re an animal!
