The TAO Of Daniel: EMPTINESS
The black sky against the stars. The blue background of a clear summer’s day. The clean, green grass as the backdrop for flowers.
It is perhaps hard to appreciate the whole picture of things. After all, we like the cherry on top of the cake do we not? And often more than the actual cake…
The Tao is invisible and brilliant in much the same way. It breathes eternally in the background, ‘holding space’ for moments of magic, displays of beauty, tiny miracles of love, kindness, compassion.
Spend time in a noisy, rushed or chaotic place for long enough and you’ll soon realise the power of silence, of empty time, of physical space, of a wide open periphery.
It is there without being too ‘proud’ of itself; without boasting; without demands; without judgements. By accepting all else it allows the constant ripples of life to become harmonious, just as the most violent splash eventually becomes little more than a passing moment. A passing memory. An inconsequential act.
Not everything needs to be a story, to be retold, to be reflected upon, understood, analysed and reimagined again.
Most things are better off blending slowly into the background; becoming a part of Tao and not separate from it.
Most things already ARE Tao and so needn’t be mentioned at all.
And so if this day, this moment, even this blog, does not make sense… give it some time, and watch it quietly transform.
