The TAO Of Daniel: DANCE
What does it mean to dance? And what’s the point of it? The Tao, of course, has a lot to say (and unsay) about such questions…
Dancing is that thing we all work towards. It’s that thing that we all too easily forget, and yet should be absolutely forgotten about. It’s the celebratory moments of self-unimportance; the pointlessness of everything in existence moving through you.
It comes and you can grab it, you ‘should’ grab it, you ‘must’ grab it. And then it disappears and we all go back to work.
The importance of this dance lies in its unimportance. And so how does one move into such a way, such a being, as described?
Essentially there is nothing to be done.
The truest experience of the dance, as prescribed by the Tao, will happen TO you. One need only to not get in one’s own way.
Easier said than done however. And certainly a practice in itself, to become one that surrenders to such experiences.
Those ‘free-will’-ists out there will look for the practical tips, the physical habits, the choices. The Tao does not deny your agency; it cannot do anything to you, or for you, anyhow. It is simply the curious bird sat on the branch, observing, questioning, reflecting, and willing the people to become to their (human) nature and the nature of all.
And, by observing you, the bird always dances, regardless of whether you choose to or not.
Dance or no dance, the possibility, the potential, the hope, will always remain available to you; wherever you are and whatever it is you choose.
