The TAO Of Daniel: PEACE
If there has ever been a single enduring quality of the Tao then it is that of ‘peace’, or ‘stillness’ one might also say.
There has been, and continues to be, a tremendous amount of peace on this planet and in this universe. Stories of war, tales of tragedy, desperation and struggle are separated (and even filled) with periods of silence, of rest and of tranquility.
Peace doesn’t sell though, nor does it make the headlines.
Somehow we need the danger and the chaos to remind ourselves of our simple ability to be okay with things.
The human can do that rather nicely. Animals also. Most of our lives, whether in sleep or through the everyday routines we engage in, are spent in relative peace.
The way of the Tao is this warm, easy current or ‘flow’: ‘the path of least resistance’ as it is otherwise called. Constantly, it explains, we are moving between the easy things; those ways of relating to the world that bring us peace.
From peace comes openness, comes curiosity, comes learning, comes growth, comes transformation. Peace aligns with our basic human need to survive and, in turn, to explore, to create, to reproduce and to thrive.
Peace is the first set of bricks on the ground; the building blocks of a Taoist’s life. Of any human life.
And so the Tao says: do the easy thing!
…because that’s how the really difficult stuff gets done.
It is a paradox but it’s true.
