Peace and Paradox

I don’t know exactly why but it comforts me to hear people contradict themselves. Like they’ve given up. The story is gone. The dream’s been trampled. It’s over. They’re free again. Then I’m free also to relate to them...

Imagine that television series, film character or book you most enjoyed of all. Chances are there’s a clear paradox in there somewhere. The killer with a heart. The nerd with an edge. Superman and his kryptonite.  We love these things don’t we? But why?

It’s the sweet paradox, secretly entwined. I’m sure of it.

Ask yourself: what’s the exact opposite of the story I usually tell others about myself?

Then get curious, and see if you’re that also. You probably are, even if you don’t often like to admit it.

Then notice how much it relaxes you. All of a sudden you needn’t be anything. The race is over. The ladder’s fallen. The familiar stairs each have holes in.

You’re back in the centre of it all again. The core of that thing called I. The master of your own paradoxical universe.

Which story do you feel like exploring next?
